A group is a community around a subject. Somewhere your post lands in front of people who already care.

Finding one

Browse groups, or just look at where the posts you like were published. Every post shows the groups it is in. Joining an open group is one click. Invite-only groups you ask to join, and a leader lets you in.

Open or invite-only

Open groups are public: anyone can read, join and post. Invite-only groups control who joins, and you decide whether what is inside is publicly readable. Pick invite-only when the conversation needs to be smaller to be honest.

  • A post in two groups is one conversation, not two copies.

One post, several groups

A post is not locked to one place. Publish it into every group it genuinely belongs in and it appears in all of them, carrying the same conversation: one thread, not copies.

Starting your own

Give it a name, a description that tells people what belongs here, and a cover image. Then post in it. A group with three good conversations attracts people; an empty one with a perfect description does not.

Running one

As a leader you approve posts if you have turned that on, remove what does not belong, and hand out leadership to people doing the work. Members who post get seen, and that is most of moderation.

What is a group?

A group is a community around a topic, run by whoever starts it. You set the subject and the tone, and you decide whether it's open to everyone or invite-only.

Can a group be private?

Yes. You choose whether your group is open to everyone or invite-only, so you decide who's in the room. Private groups are used for everything from a class to a small reading circle.

Can a post be in more than one group?

Yes. A single post can live in several groups at once, so it reaches more people. If it's removed from one group, it stays exactly where it is in every other group and on the author's profile.

Do I have to start my own group?

Not at all. Plenty of groups are already active, so you can join one and jump straight into the conversation. You can always start your own later.

Will people find my group?

You're not starting from an empty room. People are already here discussing every day, and your public group is listed in the directory where they can find it by topic and tag from the moment you create it.
