What does "Seavien" mean?

What is Seavien?
Seavien is a place to write something you have a point of view on and have people answer it properly. Someone opens a post, others reply with thoughts of their own, and the conversation builds around the real question instead of scattering the way a comment section does.
Is Seavien free?
Yes. Creating an account, posting, replying, joining groups, and starting your own are all completely free.
Do I need an invitation?
No. Seavien is open to everyone. Create a free account with an email or Google and you can start right away.
Do I have to write long posts?
No. You can start a post with a single clear thought, or just reply to one. Say what you mean and stop; length is up to you.
Posts and replies
What can I post about?
Anything you have a point of view on: an opinion, a question, an analysis, a reflection, or a story you want to open up for conversation.
Do I have to start a post, or can I just reply?
Either. Plenty of posts are already running and waiting for a good answer, so you can just find one and reply. Many people start that way and post their own question later.
How is this different from Reddit or a comment section?
Comments scatter. Here every reply is a thought that says something and that people can respond to directly, so a post stays organized around the actual question and the best thinking is easy to find instead of buried.
How is a reply here different from a like?
A like is a silent tap. Here people answer with a thought of their own and say why, so instead of a number going up, your idea gets a real response and a conversation begins.

Groups and communities
What is a group?
A group is a community around a topic, run by whoever starts it. You set the subject and the tone, and you decide whether it's open to everyone or invite-only.
Can a group be private?
Yes. You choose whether your group is open to everyone or invite-only, so you decide who's in the room. Private groups are used for everything from a class to a small reading circle.
Can a post be in more than one group?
Yes. A single post can live in several groups at once, so it reaches more people. If it's removed from one group, it stays exactly where it is in every other group and on the author's profile.
Do I have to start my own group?
Not at all. Plenty of groups are already active, so you can join one and jump straight into the conversation. You can always start your own later.
Will people find my group?
You're not starting from an empty room. People are already here discussing every day, and your public group is listed in the directory where they can find it by topic and tag from the moment you create it.

Series
What is a series?
A series ties several posts together in the order you choose, so a longer piece of writing or a course holds together as one arc while each part still gets its own conversation.
Do I have to finish a series before publishing it?
No. Publish parts as you write them and add each one to the series. Readers who follow you get every new part as it goes live, and you can rearrange the order whenever you want.

What keeps posts civil?
Seavien is built for good-faith conversation. You share what you think and why, you don't have to argue or take sides, and the format keeps people on the point. Anything that crosses the line can be reported and removed, so threads stay welcoming.
What if someone proves me wrong?
Then you leave smarter than you came. If a reply beats your reasoning you can concede, and you'll walk away with a better view than you arrived with. Changing your mind is a win here, not a loss.
Does Seavien take a political or religious side?
No. Seavien is a discussion platform, not a publication, and it doesn't endorse parties, candidates, or beliefs. The members hold the views, and they disagree with each other constantly.
How do I report something?
Every post and every reply has a report option. Reports are reviewed, and anything that breaks the rules is removed. If something needs more explanation than a report allows, contact us directly.

Can I use Seavien in my language?
Yes. Seavien runs in 25 languages and picks yours automatically where it can. You can switch at any time, and it doesn't limit which posts you can read or reply to.

Who can see what I post?
That's your call, post by post. A public post can be found by anyone, including through search engines.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. You can delete your account from your settings at any time, and you can remove individual posts whenever you want without deleting anything else.
