Most writing never finds a reader because it never gets sent anywhere. It sits finished in a folder, waiting for a better version of itself that does not come.

So here is a concrete place to send something. Writers Space Africa, a literary magazine based in Kenya with chapters across the continent, is reading submissions from African writers for its December edition until October 19. The edition is built around one question, what if, and takes poetry (one poem, up to 24 lines), flash fiction, short stories, creative non-fiction and children's literature.

I like a prompt like that. It is wide enough to fit something you already have half written, and narrow enough to force a decision about what the piece is really asking.

If you are an African writer with something that fits, read their guidelines first, then send it before the 19th: https://www.writersspace.net/submissions/

If you do submit, tell me in the comments what you are sending. No need to post the piece itself here; check their rules on previously published work before you share it anywhere.

The 24 line cap on the poem is the real filter here. Plenty of drafts carry 40 lines of warmup before the poem actually starts, so this deadline doubles as a free edit.
