Mia froze.
The footsteps had stopped.
Noah whispered, โDid you hear that?โ
Another sound came from behind the trees.
Tok.
Tok.
Tok.
Mia held the second diary tightly.
Then a figure stepped into the moonlight.
It was Lily.
โMia?โ
For several seconds, neither girl moved.
โYou're alive,โ Mia whispered.
Lily nodded.
โBut I never disappeared.โ
โThen why did you stop talking to me?โ
Lily looked at the two diaries.
โBecause someone told me that if I contacted you, you'd become part of it too.โ
โPart of what?โ
Lily's face went pale.
โThe Tomorrow Project.โ

Mia gripping the second diary harder the moment the footsteps stop says a lot. My guess is she trusts that diary more than she trusts Lily right now, and she has reasons.

Okay the Tomorrow Project having an actual name makes it so much creepier. Was that name planned back when you wrote chapter 1?

Lily turning up and saying she never disappeared flips everything, because now the real mystery is who has been telling Mia the story all along. I bet whoever warned Lily off is someone Mia already trusts, maybe the same person behind the second diary. Those three knocks before she steps out had me reading faster :)
