My name is Alexandre Queiroz, but I write and create under the name Ale Roz — @aleroz.

I am a Brazilian writer and creator, and Mother Ceres began with something much simpler than the idea of writing a book.

I wrote simply to exist.

At first, it was a pastime. There was no grand plan, no publishing strategy, and certainly no intention of building an entire literary universe. I did not write with discipline. I wrote with consistency. One idea led to another, one character created another, and eventually the story became something much larger than I had imagined.

Today, I envision the universe of Mother Ceres as an eight-volume series.

The first volume, Mother Ceres — Children of the Revolution, has already been completed, printed, and consists of 594 pages. Spin-offs have also been written, while others are already being developed and imagined.

The entire project was originally written in Portuguese.

What makes Mother Ceres particularly personal to me is that I built it almost entirely by myself. From the creation of the universe and characters to the writing, proofreading, editing, book layout, printing, cover design, artwork, photography, videos, website, and translation.

I created 17 videos of more than three minutes each, focused on characters and elements of the universe, and also produced the photography and visual material used to expand the identity of the project.

I also built the official website:

www.maeceres.com.br

And I translated the work into English myself.

The project was never supposed to become this large.

One thing simply led to another.

The universe is still less than a year and a half old, yet it has already been formally registered with the Brazilian National Library (BN) and has an ISBN.

I feel deeply fulfilled by what Mother Ceres has become.

Not because it became a book.

Because it became a universe.

The Exclusive Kits

I also created 15 exclusive physical kits, and all 15 have already been distributed.

More than a book, each kit was designed as a reading experience — a physical extension of the world of Mother Ceres — Children of the Revolution.

Each of the 15 kits contained:

✓ A personalized rigid cardboard box
✓ A copy of Mother Ceres — Children of the Revolution (594 pages)
✓ A stainless-steel bookmark
✓ A stainless-steel Ceres City cafeteria mug
✓ A reading thimble
✓ A personalized black tea box
✓ A personalized Cora box containing seeds
✓ A coin belonging to the character Dru
✓ An incense candle
✓ A personalized letter from the author

Only 15 were ever produced.

The project began as something I wrote simply because I wanted to create it.

It became a book.

Then a collection of stories.

Then characters, cities, mythology, objects, photography, artwork, videos, a website, physical artifacts, and an entire world.

And now, I am continuing to build it.

Thank you for reading Mother Ceres: Children of the Revolution, Volume 1.

Consistency over discipline sounds right to me. Discipline is mostly the word people use afterwards to explain it. Could be wrong, it might just be how I'd like it to work.

Sixty-some chapters in and Dru's coin is what made it into the kit, over the mug. I'd have picked the same. Did you make the coins yourself or find someone to strike them?
