Almost like a messianic delusion, she knelt with her lipstick smeared, wearing a veil and a pale blue dress. Gregorian chant played in the background as her mascara began to run and the cameras held by people she remembered slowly pulled away from her.
Her skin cracked with every word, every memory of something she had done wrong. She imagined thorns tearing brutally through her body. She could not bear the possibility that she had proved those hurtful voices from her past right.
With a sad smile, she looked straight ahead. A tear traced her cheek as mocking laughter sounded in the background. What she had feared had come to pass—and she had done everything she could to make it happen.

PermalinkThat line about doing everything she could to make it happen reads like she's already given up the fight against what she believes about herself. Like she chose to walk into it instead of run. There's a dark clarity in that kind of surrender, and it makes me think about how much we do end up orchestrating our own pain.

his haunting laughter
"his laughter is deafening, I tell myself, as that melody plays over and over in my ears, almost like a cassette that simply cannot stop. Nearly tearing my ears apart with my own fingernails hasn't worked, and drowning myself in drugs hasn't helped much either. even when I walk through the quietest corner of my garden, all I can hear is his laughter, and the tears start to fall because, in my misery, I have become painfully vulnerable to the memory of what it was like to have him by my side".

Hot sand in the beaches
I've been wandering the beaches, trying to find you, but you said "I don't belong here," as fierce and shy as a feral cat. But I'll still fight for you, even hiding, I can't make you leave. It hurts to love you, I'd be lying if I said I didn't look for you. Scorching sand and hot sun, I'm here for a reason. You were a beach bum, you sought to surf in the summer, with waves as high as mountains, do you still remember that shell necklace I gave you? It hurts to love you, I'd be lying if I said I d

Does your personality matter far less than you think?
I realize, interacting with students, teenagers and younger co-workers peers that many believe that their personality traits are a leading factor in deciding what do to or how to tackle their own career. Although younger people ask these questions more explicitly, older adults also seem to think along the same lines. I personally find it to be far more irrelevant than most people think. Besides my job, where I observe successful people doing the same role with drastically...
