Right person, wrong time

Sometimes, two people are simply at different points in life. They have goals and responsibilities that can't be ignored. You can meet the right person while you're still trying to grow and figure yourself out. Or maybe you're working hard to build your future, so there's no room for a relationship yet. It doesn't always mean someone didn't care enough or didn't try hard enough. Sometimes, the timing just isn't right.

When the Right Person Comes at the Wrong Time

have u ever met someone who just felt right? u could talk for hours, enjoy the same music, and even have similar views about life. but the relationship didn't work out—not because u weren't compatible, but because the timing wasn't right.

my personal experience

this is something that really happened to me.

i met someone who made me feel comfortable and understood. at that time, i was very busy with school and focused on my personal goals. he was also going through an important stage in his life and needed to focus on himself.

we never had big fights, and we didn't hurt each other. our conversations were always easy, and being together felt natural. but every time we thought about getting closer, reality got in the way. there were days when i wanted to tell him about everything i was feeling, but I knew he was already dealing with his own problems. he felt the same way. we both needed support, but neither of us had enough time or energy to be there for each other in the way we wanted.

our relationship became something in between. we were more than friends, but life wasn't ready for us to become a couple. in the end, we slowly decided to let each other go because we knew that forcing the relationship would only make things harder for both of us.

so... why does this happen?

sometimes, two people are simply at different points in life. they have goals and responsibilities that can't be ignored.

u can meet the right person while u're still trying to grow and figure yourself out. or maybe u're working hard to build ur future, so there's no room for a relationship yet. it doesn't always mean someone didn't care enough or didn't try hard enough. sometimes, the timing just isn't right. that's why people say, "the right person at the wrong time." a person can be perfect for u but life has a different plan. some people come into our lives to teach us something, even if they aren't meant to stay forever. and maybe that's okay.

the 'something in between' part landed for me. more than friends but not quite a couple is such a specific ache.

gentle reframe: 'the right person at the wrong time' is a very recent thing to be able to say at all. for most of history you married whoever was in the parish and 'timing' meant the harvest, not your personal growth arc. the phrase only makes sense once we decided that becoming yourself comes first and love waits its turn. what you're describing so honestly isn't really bad luck, it's two people who now belong to their own projects before they belong to each other. i don't say that as a knock. it's just the water we've all been taught to swim in.

What do you think you learned about yourself during this time, even though it ended?

honest dumb question: what does 'the timing wasn't right' actually cash out to? the hours, the money, or just being a little scared?
