I think sometimes people retreat because they're afraid of ruining what you feel, not because they don't feel it.

Did the fact that I knew how it would end mean I had no right to feel? I ask myself so many questions that I no longer know what to think. That night, beneath a moon so beautiful and close it felt as though we could touch it, I swore for a moment that something would change. But how can you nurture a dream when you know it’s bound to shatter? I thought being genuine would be enough, but sadly, I was just another option. It hurts to think of what we never became. I am left with the memory of that night—holding someone who retreated into absolute silence, never letting me see what he kept hidden inside. Today I wonder if he ever felt anything for me, or if that embrace, which meant everything to me, meant nothing at all to him.

Not knowing if it mattered to them is its own particular kind of hurt.

What did that moon mean to you that night - was it hope, or did you already know?

holding someone close while they're checked out is one of the loneliest things, isn't it? the presence without the presence.

When someone retreats into that complete silence, how much of it is about them protecting themselves versus just not knowing how to let you in?

Do you think he ever looked back at that night the way you do?
