My life has always found it easier to walk beside ruin than beside love. Within this rusted carcass, there is scarcely anything left to justify the next breath; only rust, ashes, and the ancient habit of carrying on.

Yet this morning betrayed every conviction I had ever clung to.

Before the world had even opened its eyes, I found myself thinking of you. And for one almost imperceptible moment, death seemed a little less persuasive. Some people have the gift of lighting up a room; you accomplished something far rarer—you brought light to a man who had already abandoned his own.

when you say death seemed less persuasive, do you mean you were thinking about it before, or is this the first time?

you were thinking of them before the world woke up. did something specific happen that morning, or was it just the moment itself?
