Isn't it funny that how the world always preaches about happiness and trying to achieve it. Yet, people who live happy lives are usually looked down upon as someone who's ungrateful about life because the world sees happiness as a reward of some achievement after going through a tough and dark phase. But if someone chooses to stay happy even while going through the journey to reach end goal it is looked down upon as a sin. How dare someone enjoy the process? How dare people not be sad till they reach desired goal? How dare? Specially, social media which is prone to sensitivity all the time, people can't fully express the joy they experience in their life as someone who might be going through tough phase can get offended or even more upset. How dare you offend someone instead of playing along to be sad yourself. Isn't the solution for sensitive people to avoid social media instead of banning expressive people from expressing?

PermalinkThe promotion and someone's layoff landing on the same screen minutes apart is what makes this feel so tense to me, more than sensitive people do. Offline you'd celebrate with the people who were there for it. My bet is that if the sad ones logged off, the feed would just find a new loser to show your good news to.

PermalinkThe idea that happiness only counts once you have paid for it with a dark phase stuck with me, because so much good news online arrives with an apology attached. My guess is most readers will see themselves on both sides of this, the one posting and the one scrolling. Thanks for starting with something people can argue about!

A horoscope feels accurate because it flatters you
A horoscope gives you a small click of recognition, that is me, and it was written for several hundred million people at once. In 1948 a psychologist handed a class one identical generic paragraph and they rated it as a near-perfect description of themselves.
