Well imagine an apple tree, but the apples are higher so both get a 1 ft stool

What your picture leaves out is who hands out the stools. Equal stools need almost no judgement from anyone, which is a big part of why people trust them. A taller stool for one person needs somebody to measure everybody first, and whoever holds the tape measure ends up with a lot of quiet power. I'd still give the short one the bigger stool, I just want to know who's measuring.

Every version of this picture quietly settles the hard part for you: everybody already agrees the short one should get an apple. Real fights start when people can't agree who counts as short, or who pays for the bigger stool, and the apple tree drawing just skips that bit.

Swapping the usual fence for an apple tree changes it for me, because apples are something you eat and a ball game is only something you watch. My guess is a lot of people who argue for equal stools would hand over the bigger one in two seconds if the short one were their own kid. Thanks for posting this one!
