The bent needle is where it stops being a rescue. Once the sensors and the syringe both fail, my bet is somebody with more stars on his shoulder suggests something a lot worse than a sedative.

The first military vehicle arrived without sirens.
Then another.
And another.
Within minutes, the road was filled with trucks, military ambulances, and research vehicles.
An officer stepped out of the first vehicle and walked directly toward the police commander.
— Who's in charge?
— I am.
— From this moment on, this area is under military control.
The police officer looked at Aurora.
— She poses no threat.
— We don't know that.
— She hasn't done anything.
— I know.
The officer looked at the girl again.
— And that's precisely why no one is going to get near her.
He pointed at the police officers.
— Everyone back.
— Sir, her mother is here.
— The mother too.
The woman immediately protested.
— I'm not leaving my daughter alone!
Two soldiers approached her.
— Ma'am, we need you to step back.
— She's my daughter!
Aurora looked at her mother.
Her mother looked at her.
For several seconds, neither of them said anything.
Then the mother began to cry.
— Aurora...
The girl simply continued looking at her.
The soldiers began establishing a perimeter.
Tape was put up.
Metal barriers were installed.
All civilians were pushed back.
— No one goes in.
— Not even the police?
— No one.
— What about the family?
— No one.
The officer raised a radio to his mouth.
— Seal off the entire area. I want at least a hundred meters between the perimeter and the central point.
Soldiers put on protective equipment.
Others set up sensors.
Cameras.
Thermometers.
Environmental analysis equipment.
Medical monitors.
A team of researchers arrived accompanied by military doctors and psychologists.
Aurora remained in the same place.
Floating.
Watching.
A psychologist approached as close as she was allowed.
— Aurora?
The girl looked at her.
— Can you understand me?
Silence.
— Are you afraid?
Aurora did not answer.
The psychologist looked at the doctor.
— She appears conscious.
— She does.
— Can we sedate her?
The doctor hesitated.
— If she remains still, we need to examine her.
A soldier opened a case.
— We have a fast-acting sedative.
The mother shouted from the other side of the barrier:
— No!
The officer raised his hand.
— Nobody does anything without medical authorization.
The doctor watched Aurora.
— If we can sedate her, maybe we can move her to a controlled environment.
A medical professional prepared the syringe.
He approached.
Aurora did not pull away.
The needle touched her skin.
And stopped.
The doctor applied a little pressure.
Nothing.
He tried again.
Nothing.
— It didn't go in.
He examined the needle.
— The needle is intact.
Another doctor approached.
— Let me try.
He pressed again.
Nothing.
Aurora's skin looked perfectly normal.
Normal softness.
Normal temperature.
Normal texture.
But the needle could not penetrate it.
— More pressure.
He tried.
The needle bent.
Aurora didn't even blink.
Everyone fell silent.
The doctor stared at the deformed instrument.
— This makes no sense.
The psychologist watched Aurora.
— Did she feel it?
— I don't know.
— Aurora?
The girl looked at her.
The psychologist pointed to her own hand.
— Did that hurt?
Aurora simply continued looking at her.
No answer.
The officer approached the doctor.
— Is she injured?
— No.
— Is she sick?
— We haven't found anything.
— Can we touch her?
— Yes.
— Can we hold her?
— Yes.
— Can we move her?
— Yes.
The doctor looked at her suspended feet.
— But there's one thing we can't do.
— What?
He answered quietly:
— Make Aurora touch the ground.
The officer stared at the girl.
Aurora then slowly moved her head.
She looked at the sky.
Then at the soldiers.
Then at her mother.
And continued floating.
