Aurora spent the night there.
The forest remained surrounded by police. Ever since the officers found her, no one had been able to explain what they were looking at.
The girl did not move.
She remained suspended in the air, approximately half a meter above the ground.
There were no ropes.
No cables.
No visible support.
One of the officers, still suspicious, slowly approached her. He knelt down and ran his hand beneath the girl's feet.
Nothing.
His hand passed through empty space.
He looked at the others.
— No ropes...
Another officer approached. He carefully touched Aurora's arm.
Her skin was at a normal temperature.
She was alive.
She was breathing.
But she did not react.
The albino girl simply watched.
Still.
Serious.
With the same calm, unreadable expression.
The silence of the forest was broken by the sound of people arriving.
Curious onlookers began approaching the police barriers. Some recorded with their phones. Others simply stared, frightened.
Then a woman appeared among the crowd.
She stopped the moment she saw the girl.
Her eyes widened.
— AURORA!
The girl slightly raised her head.
It was the first reaction anyone had managed to notice.
She looked at the woman.
In silence.
As if she recognized the name.
As if she recognized the voice.
But her expression did not change.
— My daughter...
The woman tried to move forward.
Two police officers immediately held her back.
— Ma'am, you can't go through!
— She's my daughter! She disappeared yesterday! My daughter!
— Please, calm down, ma'am.
— Aurora!
The girl continued looking at her.
Without running away.
Without speaking.
Without even showing fear.
Her mother cried as she tried to get closer.
— My daughter...
One of the officers watched Aurora closely.
— She moved her head when her mother called her.
The other was still looking at the space beneath the girl's feet.
He passed his hand underneath again.
Nothing.
No support.
No trick.
A shiver ran down his spine.
— My God...
— What?
The officer looked at Aurora.
— She just looks.
Another officer replied, almost in a whisper:
— She watches.
Around them, more people arrived.
Helicopters began flying over the forest. Cameras recorded everything from above.
Within hours, the images had taken over television, the internet, and social media.
Videos of the albino girl floating motionless began appearing everywhere.
“TEENAGE GIRL FLOATS IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOREST.”
“POLICE SURROUND MYSTERIOUS PHENOMENON.”
“WHO IS THE GIRL?”
But in front of the cameras, Aurora remained exactly the same.
Still.
Floating.
Watching.
A police officer stood several meters away, unable to take his eyes off her.
— It looks like something out of a movie...
No one answered.
He continued:
— But she doesn't do anything.
He looked at the other officers.
— She doesn't try to escape. She doesn't speak. She doesn't ask for help.
His eyes returned to Aurora.
— It's always the same expression.
Her mother continued crying behind the barrier.
— My daughter... please...
An official approached her.
— Ma'am, we need to keep our distance. The doctors and psychologists are on their way.
— But she's right there!
— We know.
— Then let me get close to her!
The man hesitated.
He looked at Aurora.
— We still don't know what's happening.
The woman covered her face with her hands.
— She's my daughter...
A heavy silence fell over the area.
Aurora looked at her again.
For a moment, it seemed as though there was some connection between them.
She recognized the woman.
Recognized the voice.
Recognized the name.
But nothing beyond that.
No apparent emotion.
No smile.
No tears.
No words.
Only those fixed eyes.
Watching.
One of the officers murmured:
— She knows that's her mother.
— How do you know?
— Because she looked when she heard the name.
He took a deep breath.
— But she doesn't seem to feel anything.
Another officer looked at the girl.
— Maybe she's in shock.
The first officer shook his head.
— I don't know.
In the distance, sirens approached.
Doctors.
Psychologists.
Specialists.
More authorities.
Everyone wanted an explanation.
But while the entire world tried to figure out what Aurora was, she remained there.
Half a meter above the ground.
Without touching the earth.
Without showing fear.
Without trying to escape.
Without communicating.
Just watching.
As if she were waiting for something.
Or someone.
