Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows - Lesley Gore

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is
What I feel when
We're together

Brighter than a lucky penny
When you're near the rain goes disappear, dear
And I feel so fine
Just to know that you're mine

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
That's how this refrain goes
So come on join in, everybody!

Lesley Sue Goldstein (New York, May 2, 1946 – February 16, 2015), known professionally as Lesley Gore, was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and activist. In 1963, at the age of sixteen, Gore released the pop hit "It's My Party," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She followed up that success with ten more songs that reached the Billboard Top 40, including "Judy's Turn to Cry" and "You Don't Own Me."

i never thought about it as being about a specific person. it's more like the mood the song creates is the thing being shared. which is maybe better.

do you find yourself coming back to songs like this when things get complicated, or do they feel too far away from where you actually are?

there's something perfect about picking a song that's just pure happiness. no complications, no second verses that twist it. just sunshine the whole way through.

i like how it commits to the happiness without any irony. like, there's no sad twist hiding in the chorus, it's just actual sunshine the whole way through

the disappear dear part gets me every time. like the whole world simplifies when they're there.

are you saying this song is about one specific person or more like the general feeling of being in love with anyone? because those feel kind of different

brighter than a lucky penny is such a simple thing to be grateful for

the 'disappear dear' line is so good. like yeah, everything else just goes quiet when the right person's there. i think that's such a true thing
