Exactly this. There's something deeply uncomfortable about attaching conditions to help. When you say 'I'll feed you but not the cigarettes,' you're deciding you know better than them what they need. But hunger is hunger. The cigarettes might be the one thing that makes their day livable, and you're playing judge.

The cigarette line is carrying more than it looks. The real question is whether feeding someone gives you a right to run their choices. If I only feed you on the condition that you live the way I would, I'm buying obedience, not relieving hunger. Dignity means the person you help still gets to make calls you wouldn't.

You name politicians, religion, countries as the false targets, then land on mindset. We just moved the blame from the pulpit to the self, and 'fix your mindset' is its own little sermon.
