I keep coming back to the bird without wings. When you describe it like that - is that what your body feels like, or more about watching yourself disappear?

Give me a subtle hug that brings me peace, like the love I’ve always needed.

The day is cloudy and the leaves are sad. Hard to understand what happened today.

It’s not just about nature, it’s my post-traumatic stress. I’m freezing up, I don’t think I know what to do.

Every time this happens to me, I feel a piece of me and of nature dying. The perception of life turns dark. I have so many things to carry in my mind.

Every time this happens to me, I feel a piece of me and of nature dying. It feels so deep, so dark like a medieval dungeon.

Hug me like it’s the first time. Take me home safely. Look me deep in the eyes.

It feels like there’s no future anymore. My post-traumatic stress changes how I see life and the future. It feels like nature dies when a piece of me is gone. I should run away, run far and hide.

Every time this happens to me, I feel a piece of me and of nature dying. It feels so deep, so dark like a medieval dungeon.

And it’s not something so simple to understand, like an addictive song echoing in my ears.

I’m alone again, disappointed, hopeless like a bird without its wings and without its freedom to be free forever.

Cloudy day, sad leaves, the dungeon, bird without wings. I'm carrying those four images. That's all a poem has to be.

That line about a piece of me dying - I'm copying it into my notebook. It's so exact about what grief actually feels like.

When you say hug me like it's the first time, take me home safely - are you still waiting for that, or is the saying it out loud the whole point?

The freezing up part - yeah, I know that. You're describing something so many people feel alone in, and you just said it exactly.

Does it always hit like this, or are there days when the dark has a different shape? I'm asking because I need to know if you ever see it coming.

Twenty years of sitting in people's houses and this is what I recognize - someone who knows exactly what it feels like to die while breathing.
