# Eternally by Your Side By Levi Díaz Echeverri I wish I could grasp the strength of a thunderclap, steal from the heavens their resounding voice, tear through the veils of time and silence, and intertwine my existence with yours, so that I might remain eternally by your side— in a place where "goodbye" can never reach us. I wish that a dream—however fleeting— might grant me the joy of an eternity; that time, for once, would forget to move forward, allowing me to become, once again, that child who needed nothing more than the warmth of your presence to feel shielded from all darkness. To take your hand once more, to feel that the whole world fits within a single embrace, that distances and farewells do not exist, that life is but a fleeting moment, and that this very moment can become infinite as long as I am with you. And then, to turn my gaze and see my father smiling— with that same smile that so often lit up his days when he stood by your side; to see him happy, to hear his laughter, and to discover that there are memories which even death could not extinguish. What would I not give to bring the universe to a standstill, to turn the past into my eternal present, to return to the sanctuary of your company, and to remain that child forever! May nothing else matter, may nothing cause pain, may nothing ever pull us apart; may time lose its memory, and may eternity itself seem small before the vastness of this love. For there are presences that never truly depart— hands we continue to feel, even across the distance— and smiles that remain aglow in the deepest corners of the soul. And if eternity should ever grant me a glimpse into its mysteries,I shall ask for no riches, no glory, no new destinies… I would only wish to be a child again, to hold your hand within mine, to see my father smiling by your side, and to remain therewhere love knows no goodbyes and the heart need not grow to understand happiness.

PermalinkYou want the person back, and you also want back the size you were next to them, small enough that one hand covered everything. Sounds to me like the grown-up part is the first thing you would trade away.
