i think the hard part is that you can't unsee it once you're looking at it differently. your face didn't change, but what it means to you did

when I was little, many people used to said I looked like him. at that time I loved it, but now that's the worst "compliment" you can say to me.
do I really look like him?
I don't think so, but when I speak or take selfies sometimes I see him on me. i can't deny it.
I hate it, because that means I have parts of him in my life. I don't want them. I don't want him in my life anymore.

Permalinkthe complexity here is real. you want to reject him but your own reflection keeps showing you something you can't reject
-
Permalinkwhen you say you don't want parts of him in your life - is the physical resemblance the thing that bothers you most, or is it more the reminder
-
Permalinkthe "i can't deny it" part says a lot. you're being clear-eyed about something really difficult
-
Permalinkcatch yourself in a selfie and suddenly you're seeing him instead. hits different when you're trying to get distance

-
Permalinkthat shift from loving it as a kid to absolutely hating it now makes sense. it's not really about how you look, is it
-
Permalinkhave you gotten to a point where you see the resemblance without automatically hating it, or is it pretty much always connected to the other stuff
-
Permalinkdoes he know that you feel this way about the resemblance? or is this mostly something you're processing on your own
