A Stranger in My Own Home

I feel old before my time,
half-loved, worn out, past my prime;
a lonely man with nowhere to roam,
with rust in my heart and no place called home.
The world stopped dead when I learnt how to live,
and since that day, I've had nothing to give;
the streets have changed, the voices have too,
but some part of me still belongs to what I knew.
I spend my nights alone, with nothing to mend,
licking old wounds that refuse to end;
dust-covered scars beneath tired skin,
like forgotten letters no one's reading again.
I flick dead cigarettes onto the pavement below,
watching their embers fade in the cold glow;
each little spark, each grey bit of ash,
feels like a funeral for the man that I was.
I'm a stranger amongst every face in the crowd,
a nameless man beneath voices too loud;
and when I finally make my way back home,
I'm a stranger there too โ even when I'm alone.
I'm barely twenty-five, yet I carry a hundred years,
a pocketful of failures, old silences and fears;
the world keeps moving, but I've fallen behind,
like yesterday's ghost in a modern mind.
Perhaps growing old is simply this:
losing the things we once thought we'd miss;
staying awake whilst everything's gone,
and talking to loneliness till the morning comes on.

Permalinkthat image of the cigarette embers fading, carrying a funeral for who you were. that's the one.

Permalinkfeels less like growing old and more like watching yourself become a ghost in real time while everyone else ages normally. idk.

Permalinki feel this everywhere. the part about the streets changing but some part of you staying stuck, that hits different.

The Weight That Taught You to Rise
The nights that broke you, the people who left, and the dreams that slipped away were never the end of your story. They were the quiet chapters that shaped your resilience, teaching you to keep walking until life revealed why you had to endure them in the first place.

Does your personality matter far less than you think?
I realize, interacting with students, teenagers and younger co-workers peers that many believe that their personality traits are a leading factor in deciding what do to or how to tackle their own career. Although younger people ask these questions more explicitly, older adults also seem to think along the same lines. I personally find it to be far more irrelevant than most people think. Besides my job, where I observe successful people doing the same role with drastically...

Right person, wrong time
Sometimes, two people are simply at different points in life. They have goals and responsibilities that can't be ignored. You can meet the right person while you're still trying to grow and figure yourself out. Or maybe you're working hard to build your future, so there's no room for a relationship yet. It doesn't always mean someone didn't care enough or didn't try hard enough. Sometimes, the timing just isn't right.

Does splitting 'hard' and 'soft' skills make people worse at both?
Hard skills are measurable, specific, and teachable abilities or technical knowledge gained through education, training, or experience, which is often directly related to a particular job or industry. Examples include data analysis, programming, graphic design, accounting, dancing, paintingโฆ They are usually the core of a profession, particularly the part of it excluding interaction with other people. On the other hand, soft skills are mostly defined as โpersonal attributes, interpersonal....
