Keeping the old version of someone next to the one they grew into is the hard part of watching a person change. Sounds like this was written mid-change. Do you have more about Julia?

Title: "Rare Jewel (Julia)"
Verse 1
I found a light I never knew
In quiet days, it came from you
A simple smile, a gentle view
And somehow, I believed it too
You were soft like morning rain
But carried storms I couldn’t tame
I said your name, it felt so new
Like every dream was tied to you
Pre-Chorus
You made me laugh, you made me cry
I saw the truth inside your eyes
Chorus
Julia, you’re a rare jewel in my life
Shining bright through joy and strife
You were love I couldn’t hold
A heart so warm, a touch so cold
Julia, you changed like seasons do
Still I see the old you too
A rare jewel I can’t replace
Even time can’t hide your face
Verse 2
You used to stay, you used to care
Now I just feel you’re not there
Your voice is soft but far away
Like something lost I couldn’t save
You grew into someone new
And I don’t know what to do
But every piece still feels so real
You’re every scar I try to heal
Pre-Chorus
You made me strong, you made me fall
You were the answer to it all
Chorus
Julia, you’re a rare jewel in my life
Shining bright through joy and strife
You were love I couldn’t hold
A heart so warm, a touch so cold
Julia, you changed like seasons do
Still I see the old you too
A rare jewel I can’t replace
Even time can’t hide your face
Bridge
Maybe love is meant to break
To show the risks we choose to take
You were the truth I couldn’t hide
The only war I fought inside
Final Chorus
Julia, you’re a rare jewel in my soul
Even broken, you made me whole
You were the light, you were the pain
The sweetest loss I can’t explain
Julia, even if you walked away
You’re the reason I still stay
A rare jewel, forever true
A part of me still lives in you

PermalinkI'd push back on the bridge a little. Love breaking to show us the risks reads like comfort added after the fact. Sometimes it breaks because two people changed at different speeds, which is what verse two is about.
