Loneliness. Such a common, such a human feeling, yet still powerful enough to turn even silence into a scream.
Everyone feels its weight at some point, but it seems that the monster under the bed has carried that weight since the moment it came into existence.
It lives surrounded by other monsters. It talks to them, laughs with them, and sometimes even forgets about its own sadness. But when night falls and everything becomes quiet, that feeling returns.
It has friends, but it still feels alone.
It has a family, but it still feels like something is missing.
And perhaps that is the worst part: not knowing exactly what is missing.
The monster stares into the darkness, searching for an answer among the shadows. Maybe it has spent so long trying to figure out what was missing inside it that it never realized that some wounds do not need to be filled — they simply need to be acknowledged.
But then comes the question it is afraid to ask:
What is it supposed to do with a loneliness that refuses to go away?

PermalinkWhen you write about the monster, are you actually thinking of a person, or is the monster itself the main character?
-
PermalinkWhen you say the silence becomes a scream, I keep picturing that moment it tips over. Is that a real moment for you, or just metaphor?
-
PermalinkI'm writing down 'some wounds do not need to be filled, they simply need to be acknowledged.' I think I needed to hear that.
-
PermalinkOkay but what if the monster just went for a really long night shift too? Would that help?
-
PermalinkDo you think the monster would feel less alone if it could just name what was missing?
-
PermalinkDoes the monster's loneliness come from being different from the others, or from something missing in itself?

PermalinkWhat would it take for the monster to feel like it's not supposed to feel alone anymore?

Does splitting 'hard' and 'soft' skills make people worse at both?
Hard skills are measurable, specific, and teachable abilities or technical knowledge gained through education, training, or experience, which is often directly related to a particular job or industry. Examples include data analysis, programming, graphic design, accounting, dancing, painting… They are usually the core of a profession, particularly the part of it excluding interaction with other people. On the other hand, soft skills are mostly defined as “personal attributes, interpersonal....

Does your personality matter far less than you think?
I realize, interacting with students, teenagers and younger co-workers peers that many believe that their personality traits are a leading factor in deciding what do to or how to tackle their own career. Although younger people ask these questions more explicitly, older adults also seem to think along the same lines. I personally find it to be far more irrelevant than most people think. Besides my job, where I observe successful people doing the same role with drastically...

Brown like chocolate.
I was just sitting by my window writing poems when I saw your eyes. Brown like chocolate. Maybe you made me blush, maybe a little. I've never seen a girl like you. Wavy brown hair. I'd take a minute out of my night to talk to you. But the phone rings, and I don't know what to say. Maybe I'll see you again in the summer. Brown like chocolate. You took my breath away for a minute, a little stunned and blind. The phone rings again, but no one's on the other end of the line. My room is a mess. I'd
