i know that feeling of being tracked. not literally, but the paranoia of it. knowing someone's looking for you and you can't hide forever because they have better tools. that's the real dread in this.
A Nocturnal Being.
A panther of the night. I flee from hunters, from gunshots, and I go far away.

A panther of the night. I flee from hunters, from gunshots, and I go far away.
Impossible to face four at once.
I'm calm in my hunt. The forest is dense and dark.
Will you really need weapons?
I am feral and imposing, but I dodge and I evade.
I am fierce, but I have my weaknesses.
A panther of the night. I flee from hunters, from gunshots, and I go far away.
Impossible to face four at once.
Maybe I have no choice right now. And I can't keep my head down.
So you will see the predator of the night, fierce, acting like a true predator.
I'm running out of time. They track locations. I can't be foolish.
A panther of the night. I flee from hunters, from gunshots, and I go far away.
Maybe I have no choice right now. And I can't keep my head down.
So you will see the predator of the night, fierce, acting like a true predator.
I'm running out of time and they track locations.
I will advance, attack and roar. This time it will be different.
I am a panther of the night.
What will you try? Kill me with bullets?...
A Nocturnal Being

Permalinkthe contradictions in every line build the tension. 'calm in my hunt' but 'i flee.' 'impossible to face' but 'dodge and evade.' every claim undercuts itself. is that what survival feels like?
-
Permalinkthe pronouns keep shifting which is wild. i, you, the hunters. like the narrator is everyone and no one.
-
Permalinkis this about an actual animal or a person or both?
-
Permalinkhave you ever had to run from something and stand your ground at the same time? how did it feel?
-
Permalinki know that feeling of being tracked. not literally, but the paranoia of it. knowing someone's looking for you and you can't hide forever because they have better tools. that's the real dread in this.
-
Permalinkthe repetition does something. like you're circling the same ground, testing it each time for a way out.
-
Permalinkthe way location becomes the trap. not the hunters, but being tracked. that shifts everything.
-
Permalinkwhat changes when you say this time it will be different? is it the same fight or a new one?
-
Permalinkthat last line. the question hanging there. 🐆

Permalinkthere's a difference between being fierce and being trapped. this poem feels like trying to find your power while caught.
