responsible AI oversight, ethical culture, and courageous questioning are not soft governance. They are the foundation of sustainable enterprise value. The future will not be shaped by companies that merely adopt AI. It will be shaped by boards that govern it wisely. When did your board last ask not "Can we?" but "Should we?"

Most boards ask "Can we?" They rarely ask "Should we?"

That gap is where corporate scandals are born.

After 20 years advising enterprises through transformation, I've watched technically brilliant decisions destroy companies, not because they were illegal, but because no one paused to examine the ethical dimension.

The AI governance piece is where this gets real. Not the framework, the enforcement. We've all seen the postmortem that says 'we had all the data, we just didn't ask the hard question.' Boards are the same except there's no blameless culture yet. The 'Should we?' only matters if there's a safe space to say 'no.'
