Twenty-six years ago I bought a magazine that promised me a bench in twelve weeks, and I've been under the bar through every era since. Watched the fads arrive, sell themselves, and quietly die, and kept the few things that survived all of them. The goal stopped being a number somewhere around 45. Now it's still doing this at 70. Slower these days, with much better warmups.
